Traffic Incident at 9100 Martin Luther King Boulevard
June 10, 2006 -- Charges are
pending against a suspect arrested in a fatal traffic accident
at 9100 Martin Luther King Boulevard about 2:20 p.m. on Friday
(June 9).
The suspect, Sara Chavis Williams (b/f, DOB 9-13-62),
faces felony charges of intoxication manslaughter and reckless
injury to a child. The identity of the victim, a four-year-old
girl, is pending verification from the Harris County Medical Examiner's
office. The girl is the suspect's daughter.

R.A. Gonzales and Officers R. Stafford and J. Tippy reported:
The suspect was driving a 1995 Saturn SL east
on Sunbeam at a high rate of speed. When she reached the intersection
of MLK Blvd, she ran the stop sign and attempted to turn south
onto MLK. Unable to stay on the road, her vehicle struck the curb
on the center median, crossed onto and over the median, and partially
struck a tree. The suspect's vehicle then crossed into the northbound
lanes of MLK Blvd., where it was immediately struck by a second
vehicle, a 2001 Acura MDX. The four-year-old victim, an unrestrained
passenger in the front seat of the suspect's vehicle, was killed
on impact.
The suspect received injuries and was transported
to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Two others in the second vehicle,
the female driver, Merri Douglas, 32, and her four-year old daughter,
Merriah, sustained various injuries and were transported to Ben
Taub General Hospital.
