Incident at 5225 Calhoun
July 28, 2006 -- Houston police
are investigating the death of a man found at 5225 Calhoun about
7:10 a.m. on Wednesday (July 26).
The victim is identified as John Collins, 52,
a homeless man who frequented the MacGregor Park area. He sustained
blunt trauma to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant P.C. Motard and
Officer C.P. Abbondandolo reported:
A construction worker found Mr. Collins lying
on the roadway near the clubhouse in MacGregor Park. The park
is undergoing renovations and was closed to the public. According
to family members, Collins preferred living on the streets and
selected the MacGregor Park area as his home for the past two
years. Robbery does not appear to be a motive. Investigators were
told the killing likely occurred sometime between 7 p.m. on Tuesday
(July 25) and 7 a.m. on Wednesday.
