Traffic Incident at 12000 Almeda Road
July 16, 2006 -- The Houston
Police Department, Mobility Incident Management Division, is investigating
an auto-pedestrian incident resulting in the death of three
adults, two females and one male, that occurred at 12000 Almeda
Road at 2:15
a.m. on July 16, 2006.
Accident investigation Officer R. Davidson reports:
On July 16, 2006, at approximately 2:15 a.m.,
a vehicle being operated by Deaundrey
Laval Wooten (b/m 10-11-72) was southbound on Almeda Road
in excess of the speed limit when he struck three pedestrians
who were crossing the street. Wooten's vehicle then swerved to
the left and struck another pedestrian and a parked vehicle before
coming to rest on railroad tracks and burning. Of the first three
pedestrians, two sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
The third pedestrian sustained critical injuries and was transported
to Ben Taub Hospital by HFD. The pedestrian that was struck near
the parked car also sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.
In all, two adult females and one adult male died at the scene.
Identification and cause of death for the deceased is pending
release by the Harris County Medical Examiner.
Deaundrey Wooten fled the scene on foot and went
to a nearby friend's home. From that location, Wooten summoned
an ambulance to treat injuries he sustained in this incident.
During transport to the hospital, Wooten admitted to having been
involved in the incident. Wooten was taken into custody at the
hospital.
The Harris County District Attorney's office
has accepted three charges of Intoxication Manslaughter and one
charge of Driving With a Suspended License against Wooten.
This accident will remain under investigation by the Mobility
Incident Management Division.
