Update on Incident at 6700 West Airport
February 4, 2006 -- Charges
have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting
of a man in the 6700 block of West Airport Boulevard about 5:30
a.m. on December 5, 2005.
The suspect, Christopher Devon Jackson (b/m,
DOB 5/22/84), was charged with capital murder in the 230th State
District Court and is already in the Harris County Jail on an
unrelated weapons charge.
The victim is identified as Eric James Smith,
34, of 12500 Sandpiper Drive. He was a Hurricane Katrina survivor
from New Orleans. Smith suffered a gunshot wound to the head and
was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Harris and
Officers T. Rutland and D. Arnold reported:
Mr. Smith was fatally shot as he walked in the
6700 block of West Airport. He was at a gas service station at
6690 West Airport when he was robbed at gunpoint of his vehicle.
While on the phone with 911, Smith was again approached by Jackson
and was shot while on the phone. Information developed by HPD
Homicide Division's Gang Murder Squad lead to the charges against
Jackson.
