Incident at 13030 Northborough #1704
December 14, 2006 -- Charges
have been filed against a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man
at 13030 Northborough #1704 about 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday (December
13).
The suspect, Derek Hollie (b/m, DOB 7-23-80),
is charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court and remains
hospitalized from a gunshot wound to his arm. He is accused in
the killing of Johnny Wilder, 26, of 13030 Northborough #1704,
who suffered gunshots wounds to the neck, face and back. Wilder
died at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J.W. Belk and
S. Kennedy reported:
Hollie was involved in an argument with his cousin,
who ran to Wilder's apartment to seek refuge. Hollie attempted
to follow his cousin into the apartment, but Wilder, who is cousins
with Hollie and the man he was chasing, attempted to stop him
from entering. Wilder tried to force Hollie out of his apartment
when they began struggling over each other's guns. During the
struggle Hollie was shot in his arm. He then wrestled Wilder to
the ground, stood above him, and shot him several times in the
back.
Hollie left the apartment but was found nearby
in the complex and taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital.
Hollie admitted to investigators that he was involved in a struggle
with his cousin over the guns which resulted in the death of Wilder.
Three other female witnesses and a small child were in the apartment
at the time of the shooting.
Investigators are interested in speaking to a
male named 'Will' who was seen
entering the apartment shortly after the shooting.
