Incident at 1225 Canterlane
April 14, 2006 -- The fatal
shooting of an aggravated robbery suspect at 1225 Canterlane about
3:30 a.m. today (Apr. 14) will be referred to a Harris County
grand jury.
The identity of the deceased suspect, who suffered
a gunshot wound to the stomach, is pending notification to the
next of kin.
The robbery victim is identified as Derriun Raney,
26, of 1225 Canterlane. He suffered a laceration to the head.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Kennedy and
Officer T. Miller reported:
The suspect, dressed in all black and wearing
socks on his hands, knocked on the front door of Raney's residence.
Raney, who was asleep inside, went to and opened the door with
a pistol in his hand. After opening the door, Raney was repeatedly
struck in the head with a tire iron by the suspect. Raney then
fired several shots at the suspect striking him in the stomach.
The suspect fell to the ground and died on the front yard of the
residence. According to witnesses, the suspect went to the residence
intending to rob Raney.
