Update on Incident at 9888 United #706
April 12, 2006 -- Houston police
have arrested and charged a 35-year-old man with the capital murder
of two women related to a homicide that occurred at 9888 United
#706 on Monday, April 10, 2006 around 3:41 p.m.
Houston Police Department Homicide Division Investigators
S. Straughter and C.T. Hufstedler charged Derrick Lamar White
(b/m DOB 10-31-70) with the murders of 35-year-old Tanynika Berry
and 34-year-old Arriana Trivette Mingo. Berry and Mingo lived
at the apartment on United along with Mingo*s children. Derrick
White, who was the boyfriend of Berry, was known to stay there
on occasion.
On Monday April 10, 2006 officers were called
to the apartment complex where the body of Tanynika Berry was
found in an outdoor storage closet. Arriana Mingo*s family, who
found Berry*s body, told officers that Arriana was also missing
and officers conducted a search for her and her missing car, discovered
that the car had been towed on April 9, 2006 from private property
to a storage lot on Rhonda Lane. Mingo*s body was found in the
trunk.
On April 11, 2006 Derrick White voluntarily turned
himself in to police at the Northwest Patrol Station on Ley Road.
He was taken to the HPD Homicide Division where he confessed that
on Friday April 7, 2006 he killed both Berry and Mingo.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy.
