Update On Incident at 9017 Chatwood

April 12, 2006 -- A suspect has been arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of a woman at 9017 Chatwood about 9:55 p.m. on April 8, 2006.

The suspect, Clifton Tommie Powers (b/m, DOB: 11-18-52), is charged with murder in the 174th State District Court.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Roberts and G. Gonzales reported:

The victim, Willie Dawson Powers, 54, and her husband, Clifton Powers, were drinking in the kitchen of their residence when he reportedly picked up a handgun to put it away. The husband told investigators he began twirling the pistol in his hands when it accidentally discharged, striking his wife in the chest. Ms. Powers was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she later died.
