Update on Incident at 9550 North Wayside
April 6, 2006 -- Charges have
been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of
a man at 9550 North Wayside about 3 a.m. on Tuesday (April 4).
The suspect, Daniel Denard Dillard (b/m, DOB
8/9/86), is charged with capital murder in the 230th State District
Court. He was arrested without incident at 8600 Tidwell about
5:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Apr. 5).
The victim is identified as Leon Dyers, 50, of
Augusta, Georgia. He suffered a gunshot would to the head and
was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Carrillo and
Officer H.A. Chavez reported:
The victim and three friends went to the apartment
complex of a female member of the group after a night of partying
to check on her children. The victim and one friend were waiting
in the parking lot when they were approached by the suspect, Daniel
Denard Dillard, who was armed with a shotgun and demanded money.
The victim complied with Dillard's demand and turned over his
money and identification. However, when the victim requested the
return of his identification, Dillard shot him. Witnesses, fearing
that Dillard would also shoot them, fled the scene. Dillard and
another male were seen leaving in a silver or gray truck.
