Update on Incident at 7300 Mullins
October 13, 2005 -- Charges
have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting
of a man in the 7300 block of Mullins about 5:50 p.m. on June
23.
The suspect, identified as Alejandro Lopez (H/m,
DOB 12-19-84), is charged with capital murder in the 177th State
District Court. He is charged in the killing of Joven Reyes, 56,
of 6120 Bellaire Blvd #150. Reyes suffered a gunshot wound to
the chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.J. Grysen and
Officer D.R. Shorten reported:
The victim was operating an ice cream vending
cart. On the top of the cart was a basket that contained snack
items. According to a witness, the victim was seen speaking with
someone in a small red vehicle. The vehicle sped off and the victim
was found on the ground with a gunshot wound. It is believed robbery
was the motive in the shooting.
A witness identified Lopez as the shooter and
investigators learned Lopez was in the Harris County Jail after
a recent arrest in an unrelated robbery. Investigators interviewed
the suspect who confessed to robbing Reyes and shooting him in
the chest.
