Update on Incident at 4646 West Sam Houston Parkway
North
May 6, 2005 -- Identities have
been released on two men fatally shot in a murder/suicide incident
at 4646 West Sam Houston Parkway North about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday
(May 5).
The suspect is identified as Jackie Lee Duke
(w/m, DOB 1-19-53) of 3006 Teague. Duke fatally shot Michael Paul
Hartmann, 56, of Ingleside, Texas. Hartmann suffered gunshot wounds
to the head and back. The suspect suffered a self-inflicted gunshot
wound to the head.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S.H. Kennedy and
Officer T.J. McCorvey reported:
Hartmann was a long time employee and Duke was
a contract worker at the Cameron Corporation at 4646 West Sam
Houston Parkway North. Both were patent lawyers. Duke had worked
full-time at the company at one time. On Thursday morning, Duke
walked into Hartmann's office armed with two handguns. He shot
Hartmann and then himself. Both men were pronounced dead at the
scene.
At this time, investigators do not know the motive
for the incident. Investigators have learned the suspect was heavily
in debt and did leave a suicide note in his apartment. However,
the note did not shed any light on the motive for the killing.
The investigation is continuing.
