Incident at 7606 Ashmole Lane

July 26, 2005 -- Houston police are investigating the drowning of a child at 7606 Ashmole Lane about 3:30 p.m. on Monday (July 25).

The victim is identified as 18-month-old Adriana Hernandez of 7606 Ashmole Lane. An autopsy by the Harris County Medical Examiner's office is pending.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. H. Roberts and Officer C. Y. Park reported:

The victim's mother noticed that the child was missing about 3:30 p.m. and began to search for her with the assistance of a housekeeper. The mother discovered her child outside in the backyard of the residence inside a child's inflatable pool that was filled with water. Several City of Houston employees who were across the street ran to assist the victim who was unconscious and not breathing. They performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Adriana Hernandez was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital where she later died.

The investigation is continuing.
