Incident at 9700 Leawood
February 24, 2005 -- Houston
police are investigating the fatal shooting of an aggravated assault
suspect by a Houston police officer at 9700 Leawood on Wednesday,
February 23, 2005, about 2:40 a.m.
The deceased suspect has been identified as Alan
Hunter (b/m DOB: 3-17-78). He was shot one time and pronounced
dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Elliott and
Officer J. Sosa reported:
Houston police officers were leaving a disturbance
call when they heard gunshots nearby. Officer A. R. Arevalo, assigned
to Westside Patrol Division, approached the entrance gate of the
apartment complex. As Officer Arevalo was standing near the guard
shack, a red Ford pickup truck passed a dark colored Honda Accord
and stopped in front of him. Hunter got out of the driver's side
of the truck and began to shoot at the victim, Christopher Boston,
who was driving the Honda Accord. Officer Arevalo fearing for
Boston's life fired his gun two times at Hunter. After the shooting,
Hunter's vehicle rolled forward approximately 100 yards and struck
a fence.
Michael Lee Alfred (b/m DOB: 8-01-77) who was
a passenger in Hunter's pickup truck was arrested and charged
with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 178th State
District Court. An additional unknown suspect who was in the back
of the truck escaped on foot.
As in all officer-involved shootings, the Internal
Affairs Division, as well as the Harris County District Attorney's
Police Integrity Division and the Harris County Grand Jury are
investigating this incident.
