Incident at 6700 West Airport
December 5, 2005 -- Houston
police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man in the 6700
block of West Airport Boulevard about 5:30 a.m. today (Dec. 5).
The victim is identified as Eric James Smith,
34, of 12500 Sandpiper Drive. He was a Hurricane Katrina survivor
from New Orleans. Smith suffered a gunshot wound to the head and
was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant E. Gonzalez and
Officer R. Martinez reported:
Mr. Smith was fatally shot as he walked in the
6700 block of West Airport. It is believed he had been at a gas
service station at 6690 West Airport shortly before he was shot.
Smith might have been robbed of his vehicle somewhere outside
the service station, but this has not yet been confirmed. At this
time, there is no information on the vehicle Smith was driving
or what vehicle the suspect(s) was in.
