Update on Incident at 2700 Alabama
August 31, 2005 -- The fatal
shooting of a man at 2700 Alabama about 5 a.m. on Thursday, August
25, 2005, will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
Demarcus Ladale Bagwell, 29, suffered a gunshot
wound to the chest and was pronounced dead on arrival at Ben Taub
General Hospital.
The shooter, Stacy Bernard Lovings, (b/m, 3-21-88),
was questioned by investigators and released without charges.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Booth and Officer
J. C. Bonaby III reported:
Bagwell and Lovings got into a verbal confrontation
that escalated into a physical altercation. At some point during
the altercation, handguns were produced and Mr. Bagwell was shot
in the chest. After the shooting, Lovings fled the scene on foot.
On Saturday, August 27, 2005, Stacey Lovings
went to the HPD Homicide Division and provided investigators with
a written confession and surrendered the weapon used in the shooting.
Lovings also had injuries consistent with evidence found at the
scene.
