Update on Incident at 4025 Eldridge Parkway
August 19, 2005 -- Charges have
been filed against a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man at
4025 Eldridge Parkway about 12:45 p.m. on Thursday (Aug. 11).
The suspect, Howard
Dale Bellamy, a.k.a."Peanut" (b/m, 7-13-83), has
been charged with capital murder in the 228th State District Court
and remains at-large. He is accused in the killing of Akhil Chopra,
28.
HAD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Scott and Officer
C. Scales reported:
Mr. Chopra was shot and killed during a robbery
in the Joseph A. Fiorenza Park on August 11, 2005 while meditating
or praying on his lunch break, which was his usual routine. There
were no witnesses to the murder and the suspect was unknown until
officers learned that Chopra's credit cards were being used to
purchase gasoline after his murder. The arrest of the theft suspects
enabled officers to identify Bellamy as the person who robbed
and murdered Mr. Chopra.
