August 18, 2005 -- Murder charges
are pending against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of
a man at 8406 Springtime Lane about 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug.
17).
The suspect, Christopher Demond Hollis Sr. (b/m
DOB: 8-25-72), turned himself in at the HPD Stringfellow Southeast
Police Station. The victim, Wilbur Elzy, 46, of 8402 Springtime
Lane, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was pronounced
dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. H. Roberts
and J. T. Wyers reported:
The Houston Fire Department responded to a minor
accident involving an 11-year-old boy. He received minor injuries
after colliding with a parked car while riding a motorized scooter.
Wilber Elzy, the stepfather of the boy, was standing nearby while
HFD personnel were treating him. A few minutes later, the biological
father, Christopher Hollis Sr., arrived and began arguing with
Elzy. The two became involved in a physical altercation and were
advised by an eyewitness not to fight in front of his house. As
Elzy began walking back toward his residence, Hollis drove his
vehicle backwards and stopped the vehicle between Elzy and his
residence. Eyewitnesses stated Hollis jumped out of his vehicle
with a gun and shot Elzy.
