Update on Incident at 9201 North Loop East
August 16, 2005 -- A suspect
charged in the fatal shooting of a baby girl and the wounding
of her mother at 9201 N. Loop East about 1:30 p.m. on June 18,
2004 has been arrested.
The suspect, Augustine Eke (b/m DOB: 9-13-55)
has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the 263rd
State District Court. He is also known as "Austin Eza",
"Jamaica", and "Pimp".
On Tuesday, August 9, 2005 Houston police received
information from the FBI that Eke had been detained at the Atlanta
Airport on minor charges. After fingerprinting Eke, it was determined
that he was wanted out of Harris County for capital murder. He
is currently in the Fulton County Jail awaiting extradition by
the Harris County Sheriff's Department.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.B. Douglas and
Officer M.S. Walker reported:
Chandra Battle, 22, was at a gas station arguing
with her boyfriend, suspect Eke, in the presence of Brianna, 4-months-old,
and her other daughter. All four were in Eke's car, a gold 4-door
Mercury Grand Marquis. Eke turned and fired into the rear passenger
seating area where Chandra and the girls were. Chandra and Brianna
both sustained gunshot wounds but Brianna was fatally wounded.
Chandra then got out of the car and attempted
to flag down passing motorists for help. Eke followed her, first
on foot, and then in his vehicle, firing at her again both times.
He then fled with the girls still in the car. Eke was last seen
traveling eastbound on Wallisville. Brianna was later discovered
dead at Wallisville and Mesa. Her body was transported to the
Harris County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
The other daughter, a 3-year old girl, was later
dropped off unharmed at a house in Pasadena.
