Incident at 7700 Memorial Drive
April 1, 2005 -- A male fatally
shot himself in the presence of Houston police SWAT officers in
the 7700 block of Memorial Drive about 8:05 p.m. on Thursday (March
31).
The deceased male, whose identity is unknown
at this time, is believed to be in his 30s. He suffered a gunshot
wound to the head and was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General
Hospital.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C.J. Grysen and
Officer A. Mares reported:
Patrol officers were dispatched to the 8100 block
of Washington in regards to a suspicious male with a gun. Officers
located the man on the railroad tracks located behind the Washington
address. An officer spoke to the man in Spanish and continued
to walk southbound along the railroad tracks. SWAT officers and
members of the Hostage Negotiation Team were requested at the
scene. As the man walked in the direction of 7700 Memorial Drive,
he pointed a gun to his head several times, pulling the trigger
in some instances. At one point about 8:05 p.m., the man pulled
the trigger again and the gun fired.
