Senior Police Officer Bill Jeffrey was shot and killed in the 5300 block of Aeropark Drive at about 7:30 am while serving a warrant in Harris County.
On September 20, 2021, at approximately 0730 hours, Houston Police Department Officers assigned to the Major Offenders Division were executing an arrest warrant for Suspect Deon Ledet at an apartment in the Timber Ridge Apartment complex, located at 5350 Aeropark Drive. Six members of the Major Offenders Division set up a perimeter around the apartment and knocked on the door. A female answered the door and advised officers that the suspect was inside the apartment.
Officers standing outside the (open) front door, called for the suspect to come out. The suspect, still inside the apartment, began shooting at the officers, striking two officers. Other officers returned fire, shooting the suspect multiple times. The suspect succumbed to his injuries on scene.
Officer Jeffrey who was struck multiple times, was flown by Life flight to Memorial Hermann and succumbed to his injuries. Sergeant Vance, also struck multiple times, required surgery and is expected to survive.
The suspect had two drug related outstanding warrants at the time of this incident and had a bond forfeiture on January 8, 2021. The female sustained injuries from gunfire and two children inside the residence were uninjured. He and other officers had gone to the apartment to serve an arrest warrant as part of a high-level narcotics case. They made contact with a female subject who answered the door. As they spoke to her the wanted man emerged and opened fire without warning, striking Officer Jeffrey and another officer. Officers were able to return fire and killed the subject. The suspect used a Glock handgun that has been illegally converted to full automatic.
Officer Jeffrey was a U.S Navy veteran and had served with the Houston Police Department for 30 years. He is survived by his wife Susanne and daughter Lacie. His wife had recently retired from the Houston Police Department.
