POLICE Department
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
Mediation Process
Mediation
offers many benefits and is an effective conflict resolution tool used
by the department to assist employees in resolving interpersonal conflicts
and differences. The Houston Police Department strongly encourages the
use of mediation for resolution of eligible issues. The Mediation
Section of HPD's Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) office is charged with the responsibility of identifying issues that
are eligible for the mediation process and for facilitating management
of all mediation cases.
In 2003 the department expanded its successful "in house" mediation program by implementing the Citizen & Employee Mediation Program (CEMP). Through this innovative program members of the community may utilize the department's mediation process to help resolve eligible issues that may have occured between themselves and any Houston Police Department employee.
