FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 2, 2004 HOUSTON PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT UNVEILS THE WORK OF YOUNG ARTISTS WHO: The Houston Parks and Recreation Department WHAT: Summer Mural Painting Program Unveiling WHERE: Carverdale Community Center 9920 Porto Rico Road (Key Map 450 WHEN: Wednesday, August 4, 2004 11:00 a.m. The Houston Parks and Recreation Department will unveil the work of Houston youngsters on Wednesday, August 4, 2004. Participants in HPARD’s popular Summer Mural Program will showcase their talents with an unveiling at Carverdale Community Center, 9920 Porto Rico Road (Key Map 450A) at 11:00 a.m. This is the fourth of five murals to be unveiled this summer. Now in its eighth year, the Summer Mural Program is generously sponsored by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and allows Houston youth the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to their neighborhood. This mural and other education projects receive generous funding from PPG Pittsburgh Paints. All education programs at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston receive endowment income from funds provided by Caroline Wiess Law; the National Endowment for the Humanities; the William Randolph Hearst Foundation; the Fondren Foundation; BMC Software, Inc. the Wallace-Reader’s Digest Funds; the Louise Jarrett Moran Bequest and the Favrot Fund. - 30 -
