ABOVE THE RIM ACTION PARKS DEPARTMENT TIPS OFF FALL BASKETBALL LEAGUE WITH HOUSTON ROCKETS
The Parks and Recreation Department’s Houston Rockets Youth Basketball League is gearing up to offer another fantastic season of fast breaks, three-pointers and skillful ball handling to boys and girls ages 4-12 who want to hoop it up. Registration is under way at community centers across the city through October 30.
A current photo and proof of age are required at time of registration. This eight-week, action-packed season kicks off Sat., November 6. The league serves more than 4,500 children during the winter and spring seasons.
The Houston Rockets Youth Basketball League is a free, citywide recreational program in which participants practice weekly and compete in one game per week. With support from the Houston Rockets, the program offers a Rockets Youth Basketball T-shirt, expert coaching, special events including 3-on-3 tournaments, skills clinics, an educational component and guest speakers.
This league is designed to help participants develop and/or improve their basketball skills to prepare them for junior high and high school teams, as well as state, regional and national competitions. These young athletes are also encouraged to take part in educational and cultural enrichment programs offered by the Parks and Recreation Department.
