City of Houston Releases ARPA Report Detailing Funding Use to Enhance City Services

August 1, 2023 -- Houstonians who want to know how the City has responsibly utilized American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) dollars to improve City services and projects now have a new tool to reference.

On July 31, the City of Houston released the American Rescue Plan Act State and Local Fiscal Relief Funds Annual Performance Report. https://houstontx.gov/arpa/.

The report contains Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the various programs funded by ARPA dollars and details the investments in the successful One Safe Houston and One Clean Houston initiatives.

Some of the highlights include:

  • 157 new Houston Police Department cadets recruited with $10,000 Cadet Retention Incentive pay initiative
  • 37,000 tons of bulk waste and illegal dumping collected through the One Clean City initiative funded by ARPA dollars
  • $5 million investment in Arts and Culture stabilization grants

"Thanks to the Biden - Harris Administration and ARPA funding, the City of Houston can make these unprecedented investments that impact many of Houston's neighborhoods, particularly the most vulnerable," said Mayor Sylvester Turner.

The report, compiled by the Mayor's Office of Government Relations with assistance from each city department, is the third annual ARPA performance report submitted to the citizens of Houston.
