Mayor Whitmire Encourages Civic Participation Through VoteHouston.org

October 21, 2024 -- As Election Day approaches, Mayor John Whitmire is urging all Houstonians to take part in their civic duty by engaging with VoteHouston, a nonpartisan voter education initiative designed to empower the public with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions at the polls.

Elections matter, and the choices we make today will shape the future of our city,” said Mayor Whitmire. “Vote Houston is making it easier for residents to access essential information about the electoral process and understand the significance of their vote. Through educational flyers distributed at all City of Houston libraries, multi-service centers, inserts in water bills, local newspapers, and across digital platforms, this program is a powerful tool for promoting informed civic participation.

Since August, Vote Houston has reached thousands of Houstonians, providing educational resources in English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese attending in-person events, and informing residents of voting requirements and key dates. The program has also partnered with local organizations to ensure voter accessibility across the city.

One of Vote Houston’s key partners is METRO, which is committed to making voting more accessible by offering free rides to the polls.

“METRO is proud to support Houstonians in exercising their right to vote by providing transportation to polling locations across the city,” said Elizabeth Brock, METRO Chair. “Our goal is to eliminate transportation barriers and ensure that every Houstonian has the opportunity to make their voice heard.”

With early voting beginning soon, Mayor Whitmire encourages every resident to visit VoteHouston.org and download METRO’s app to obtain voting information and secure your free ride. For more information, visit VoteHouston.org.
