The City of Houston Seeks Artists to Create Artwork for Parking Meters

August 29, 2016 -- The City's Parking Management Department is adding two-dimensional artworks to ten parking meters on Allen Parkway, between Downtown and Taft Street, alongside Buffalo Bayou Park.  The artworks will be printed on adhesive vinyl wraps and applied to the parking meters. One or more artists will be commissioned to create designs for the ten meters.

The deadline for submission of qualifications is September 23, 2016.

The City of Houston's General Service Department is contracting with the Houston Arts Alliance to administer the artist selection and project management.

In 1999, the City of Houston established an ordinance mandating that 1.75% of qualified Capital Improvement Project monies be set aside for civic art.  The program is managed by The Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs.
