Houston’s Arts and Cultural Plan will help guide the City’s future investments by identifying what matters to people and the community. It will build on existing public input gathered from recent surveys, reports, and a wealth of existing research – and it will engage new voices from the community through robust public engagement. Practical, innovative, consensus-based planning can improve collaboration, enhance partnerships, advance policymaking, and ultimately deliver higher quality outcomes toward a community vision.
The cultural plan process is being coordinated by The Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, with extensive outreach to the community at large, cultural organizations, artists and creative businesses. Mayor Parker has directed that the plan be finished before she leaves office at the end of 2015. In tandem with this, the Department of Planning and Development is working on the City’s first general plan.
