Applications Open for New Teen Advisory Club; Second Chance on Career Online High School Enrollment; Surveying the State of Education February 21

Houston Public Library (HPL) is hosting the first cohort of its new Teen Advisory Club, which meets monthly in downtown Houston at Central Library. Teens who participate in the club provide feedback about library services and programs for ages 13-18, learn about careers in libraries and earn community service credit for school. Teens interested in joining are encouraged to complete the Teen Advisory Club online application form.

HPL’s Career Online High School program is expanding and has new scholarship money to offer to students aged 21 and up who have never finished high school. Students who complete the program can earn an accredited high school diploma as well as a career certificate in one of 10 different career paths. More information and instructions are available online.

Critical Conversations: Leveling the Educational Playing Field is taking place on February 21 at the Central Library. HPL’s Larry Payne talks to Dr. Ruth N. Lopez Turley, Director of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research, about the challenges and opportunities facing the future of quality education for all. Seating is limited for this free event, and registration is strongly encouraged.
