Meet the Advisory Board - David Godwin

David Godwin is the Executive Director for the Literacy Initiative for Today (LIFT) Program at the University of St. Thomas.

Prior to joining the University of St. Thomas, David worked in Public Health as a Program Manager for State of Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). Notable is his 30 years as Tuberculosis Elimination Program Manager for DSHS, a public health region where he directed Tuberculosis and Sexually Transmitted Disease initiatives for a 16county region. Under David’s leadership, there were significant reduction in rates for Tuberculosis and Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

In his current role, David leads a team of forty staff to engage students to learn to speak, read and write English by providing comprehensive educational experiences and promoting cultural understanding, focused on social justice and outreach to the community. David lives in Houston with his wife, Dr. Lucy Sandoval Godwin and their two daughters, Sarah who is living in Longmont Colorado and is a Paralegal and Emily who is a Junior at the University of Houston.
