The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD), in partnership with Keep Houston Beautiful and DRC Emergency Services, Inc., is celebrating the spirit of giving this holiday season by donating 34 bicycles to boys and girls between the ages of 5-12. The bicycles were given away to children or an agency on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Thomas “Buck” Buchanan Service Center.

Mayor Parker along with Houston City Council Members and City Controller were asked to identify a child or an agency to donate the bike to in their name.

“It brings joy to see a child’s face when they receive their first bike,” said SWMD Director Harry Hayes. “We are delighted to be part of this tradition and hope it will continue to bring happiness to children during the holidays.”

“Keep Houston Beautiful is proud to be a part of this wonderful tradition. We look forward to seeing the children receive their gifts and having something to celebrate at this time of the year,” said Keep Houston Beautiful Executive Director Robin Blut. “The gifts will be part of one of their best holiday memories and bring the children a moment of happiness to cherish.”
