“HOLIDAY TREES: ARTISTICALLY UPCYCLED” GRAND OPENING AND EXHIBIT HOSTED BY THE SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT
(December 5, 2012 – Houston, TX) The City of Houston’s Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD) in conjunction with the City Gardens and The Center for Recycled Art announced the grand opening of the exhibit “Holiday Trees: Artistically UpCycled”. The exhibit features a series of trees decorated by local artists and schools using the technique of ‘upcycling’ – taking something old and used and repurposing it, giving it a new sense of value.
The exhibit is free, open to the public and can be seen 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Bob Lanier Public Works Building, 611 Walker, Ground Level Lobby, from December 5 through December 28, 2012.
“One of SWMD’s most important missions is to encourage the development of imaginative and dynamic ways to divert material from landfills. This exhibit embodies the spirit of ART - Accountability, Responsibility, and Teamwork, and demonstrates to the citizens of Houston how working together to recycle can improve not only their city, but the world we live in,” said Harry Hayes, Director of the SWMD.
