The contest supports the SWMD's mission of recycling and responsible waste management and provides high school students an opportunity to explore alternative means of repurposing waste items in a creative manner.

"We're excited about the great interest we received from all the schools," said Director Harry Hayes. "This contest gives the students a unique challenge highlighting environmental stewardship while finding creative ways to reuse everyday items."

Contest judges included Jeremy Moore, Mayor's Office of Sustainability; Steve Stelzer, Green Building Resource Center and Molly Block, Unconsumption.
