WHAT: |
Sixteen mascots across the U.S. are competing in Waste & Recycling News’ (W&R News) 2nd annual Mascot Madness Competition for title of “Best Mascot in the Waste and Recycling Industry”. In the first bracket, SWMD mascots’ Captain Clean Up and ReUseIt are pitted against Dallas’ mascot, Romeo the Chipmunk. The Captain and ReUseIt must score more votes to advance to the next bracket.

The eight elite winners from the first bracket will be featured in W&R News’ March 4th issue.

WHY: |
The contest supports the mission of the SWMD by promoting recycling and responsible waste management through the education and advocacy that these mascots represent. Captain Clean Up and ReUseIt highlight the advancement of our diversion efforts here in Houston, both in recycling and in neighborhood clean-up, and add a fun element to our outreach efforts throughout the city at various events and ongoing school programs. |
