Suspect Arrested, Charged in Crash at 9000 Irvington

January 9, 2020 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in a fatal crash involving an unborn child that occurred at 9000 Irvington Boulevard about 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday (January 7).

The suspect, Elene Lujan (H/f, 32), is charged with murder in the 183rd State District Court.  A photo of Lujan is attached to this news release. 

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Warhol and Officer O. Sulaiman reported:

Lujan was driving a white Toyota Camry northbound on Irvington when she and the passenger got into an argument.  According to Lujan, the passenger became angry and jerked the steering wheel to the right, causing the vehicle to swerve. Lujan then jerked the vehicle to the left, causing the vehicle to strike the curb of the median.  The vehicle then jumped onto the median where it struck a tree located in the center of the median.  Both Lujan and the passenger, who was pregnant, suffered injuries and were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.  The passenger's unborn child was later pronounced deceased.

Lujan was found to be intoxicated and was subsequently charged for her role in the incident.
