Memorial Park Golf Course Closure Notice

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department provides 5 challenging golf courses for your enjoyment. From Memorial Park, widely considered the best municipal course in the state, to historically significant Hermann Park and Gus Wortham Park courses, to well-maintained, lower-priced courses such as Sharpstown and Melrose Park courses, there is something for every golfer.

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department manages and operates two of the city’s municipal courses: Memorial and Sharpstown. Three are managed by private companies for the city: Hermann, Gus Wortham, and Melrose. For tee times at the courses operated by H.P.A.R.D., please visit www.houstonmunigolf.com. For tee times at the other courses, please call the specific course’s pro shop.

Memorial, Hermann and Gus Wortham are all located inside the loop. Sharpstown, one of Houston’s most popular and most walkable courses, can be reached from Bellaire Boulevard on the Southwest side. Melrose, in North Houston, offers a chance to practice short-game skills with its 18 par -3 holes. All courses have driving ranges; practice putting and chipping greens and pro shops. Dining facilities are available at all courses except Melrose. All courses are non-metal spike facilities.

Weekday fees apply Monday through Thursday. Weekend fees apply Friday through Sunday and all City Holidays. Junior (18 and under) and Senior (65 and over) rates are offered on weekdays only. Twilight start times vary by season. Please call the course for specific times.

Lessons from qualified instructors are available at all courses. Tournament and corporate outings may be scheduled by calling any of the courses. Prices are subject to change without notice. Extra fee applies for use of electric golf car.

The First Tee of Houston
In July 2014, Houston City Council passed a proposal that consolidated two chapters of The First Tee, The First Tee of Houston at FM Law Park and The First Tee of Greater Houston.

As a result, in August 2014, The First Tee of Greater Houston assumed responsibility for the youth program operations and the grounds maintenance of the facility, while the City of Houston retained ownership of the property. The First Tee provides programs for youth 7-18 years of age which teach character development, healthy habits, and life skills, using the game of golf.
