Mayor's Office Press Release

Mayor's Traffic Update

September 8, 2017 -- Vehicular traffic repairs and restorations by the city Public Works and Engineering Department are leading to mobility improvements for the weekend and next week, Mayor Sylvester Turner said.

Traffic signals are back in working order downtown and the remaining ones that are out of order across the rest of the city are now confined mostly to flooded areas. Residents should report out-of-order signals by calling 311.

Gessner Road and Highway 6 south of Interstate 10 are expected to re-open Monday.

Portions of roads that cross Buffalo Bayou or reservoirs on the west side of the city will remain closed next week, including Highway 6 north of I-10, Eldridge Parkway north of I-10, Clay Road and Westheimer Parkway, Dairy Ashford Road, Kirkwood Road, Wilcrest Drive and the Sam Houston Tollway.

Motorists should monitor maps at https://traffic.houstontranstar.org/layers/ as well as news media reports to plan their trips.

"Please be patient as Houston re-opens for business," the mayor said,
