As those of you who work in the Bob Lanier Public Works Building, better known as 611 Walker, may recall, Sept. 22 saw the installation and tesing of a new emergency alert notification system for the building.

These new alerts provide notifications in the event of fires, severe weather, and active threat.
All three of the alert messages were played from public address systems and strobes during the test, which started about 9:30 a.m. and took about 10 minutes to complete. There was no action required on the part of participants, who were instructed to just listen to the three types of messages.

James Garza, over 20 years of service in safety

Sometimes known as “Big Game James Garza,” not for his experience with African safaris, but because, when the stakes were high and failure was not an option, it was a job for James.

Store your medicine properly

Many families depend on medicines and vitamins to feel well and stay in good health. But medicine, including those you purchase without a prescription, can be harmful if taken in the wrong way or by the wrong person. Thousands of young children end up in emergency rooms each year because they got into medicines while an adult wasn’t looking. These emergency visits can be prevented by always putting every medicine up and away and out of children’s reach and sight every time you use it. Practicing safe medicine storage, while at home and when on-the-go, can help keep children and elderly safe.
