Celebrate 120 Years in 2024 with Houston Public Library

Since its dedication and public opening on March 2, 1904, Houston Public Library (HPL) has been committed to growing its resources, services and program offerings to meet the needs of Houstonians. This spring, HPL celebrates 120 years through a series of events, parties and gifts.

You're invited to the Kick-off Birthday Bash on Saturday, March 2 from 10:30 AM – 2 PM at Central Library. The Kick-off Birthday Bash features family-friendly entertainment such as storytimes, crafts, games, face painting, a live DJ, and special performances by the Waltrip High School Marching band and the School of Indian Classical Dance & Music. Partygoers will have a chance to meet H-E-Buddy and savor IHOP treats. Limited-edition merchandise and other promotional items are available while supplies last.

To further commemorate, HPL introduces a limited-edition card which will be available at any HPL location beginning March 2 in two design options featuring exclusive artwork. These special cards are available for new customers as well as any existing cardholders who would love a collector's item to mark this historic milestone.
