    Mayor Annise Parker today announced details of a plan that will provide funding for Memorial Park improvements and construction of a mass transit corridor on Post Oak Boulevard. The plan relies on City Council approval of the extension of the boundaries of the Uptown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone #16, which currently encompasses the Galleria and surrounding area.

Swimming Pools and Water Spraygrounds OpenThe Houston Parks and Recreation Department (HPARD) kicks off the summer with the 2013 Swim Season Splash Off on Saturday, May 25, 2013, 10 a.m. at the Memorial Park Aquatic Center, 6402 Arnot Street, Houston 77007.

2013 HPD Moonlight Classic

2013 HPD Moonlight ClassicOn June 7, 2013, The Houston Police Foundation will be hosting its 5th Annual HPD Moonlight Classic Bike Ride. The theme this year is NEON NIGHTS and will be Houston’s first lighted bicycle ride. The ride is from 8:30pm to Midnight. All riders are encouraged to decorate their bicycle and clothing with neon accessories and lights. The course is a 5-mile loop on Memorial Drive from the Downtown Aquarium restaurant to Shepherd Drive and back.

The annual event is held on Thursday, July 4, 2013, culminating with a fireworks extravaganza set to a perfectly timed bed of patriot and current musical selections.
